This website proposes and makes available suicide prevention tools developed specifically for persons with an intellectual disability (ID) or an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Context of the project: absence of tools adapted to the needs of persons with ID or ASD and specialized clinical settings

Before 2018, there was a dearth of suicide prevention tools and guidelines specifically for persons with an ID or ASD. Yet these persons have specific needs and particularities that must be addressed. Because they do not take these particularities into account, the suicide risk assessment tools developed for the general population are not adequate with persons with an ID or an ASD.

Meeting the professionals’ needs: tools developed in partnership with specialized intervention settings

The tools in the IDAS Process have been developed to meet the needs expressed by numerous actors in ID-ASD specialized intervention settings.

The IDAS Process is the result of a series of collaborative research projects involving research centres and intervention settings from 2015 to 2020. The research reports are available when completed in the References section.

The dynamic model of suicide in persons with an ID or ASD is currently the object of a validation study. The results should be published in 2021.

Training sessions on the IDAS Process

Training sessions on the IDAS Process are offered by the Service québécois d’expertise en troubles graves du comportement (SQETGC) and the ID and ASD rehabilitation network in Quebec, Canada.
